Waltraud Schmid is an economist with more than 25 years of experience in the energy sector. She started out in the Austrian Energy Agency, dealing with energy policy and energy planning at national level, before moving to Brussels to work in the EU Commission’s Directorate-General for Energy and Transport. There, for many years she was part of the team managing the Intelligent Energy – Europe Programme, an EU funding programme on sustainable energy and mobility, supporting the market uptake of energy efficiency and renewable energy solutions. Since 2013, her focus is on the urban agenda. She is in charge of the Energy Center at Urban Innovation Vienna, which supports the City of Vienna in its efforts to achieve the ambitious energy and climate protection.
