HOME AND BUILDING RENOVATION IS DIRECTLY RELEVANT TO THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE EUROPEAN GREEN DEAL AND EUROPE’S RECOVERY AFTER COVID-19. WHAT’S MORE, WITHOUT EFFECTIVE HOME RENOVATION PROGRAMS THAT COMBINE BOTH FINANCING AND TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE, WE WOULD BE LOSING OUT ON AN OPPORTUNITY TO GET EUROPE BACK ON TRACK AND MEET THE GOALS SET OUT IN THE GREEN DEAL.
Right now, Europe needs a holistic solution that puts home renovation in a broader context of economic recovery after COVID-19, urban regeneration, public health, and the clean energy transition. Sustainable home renovation offers an incredible opportunity to kick-start Europe’s post-COVID-19 economic recovery, achieve our decarbonization targets and create vibrant, resilient communities of healthy citizens.
Research shows that sustainable home renovation brings a benefit-cost ratio of 4:1, resulting in reduced healthcare costs, obviating energy subsidies, and the creation of local jobs and professional opportunities. In fact, nearly 60% of home renovation expenditure is attributed to labor, making it a key element of job creation post-COVID-19. The challenge is to dramatically increase the renovation rate in Europe, whilst simultaneously improving the health and well-being of Europeans. This goal can be achieved by making home renovation easier, faster, more reliable and affordable for all, while creating a lasting social, environmental and economic impact.
This session will showcase successful home renovation programs with the ability to achieve scale and play a pivotal role in achieving the European Green Deal’s goals. It will highlight several initiatives that provide technical support and financing to European citizens, within the framework of broader urban regeneration strategies.
The programs featured in this session exemplify how home renovation can be shaped to be inclusive and accessible to all, by offering targeted support, special financing arrangements and grants to vulnerable groups.
Speakers from Spain, Italy, Belgium, and Ireland will share their practical insights on best practices in program design, operations, financing models, marketing and outreach and scalability.
