Thank you to all those who attended the session! Presentations from the event are available here.
This event organised by the Scottish Government, Scotland Europa, the EU Ocean Energy Association (EU-OEA) and the new Scottish European Green Energy Centre (SEGEC) will explore real progress in the development of wave and tidal power andthe role of ocean energy sources in satisfying the EU's future energy needs. The session is organised within the frame of the WAVEPLAM project (http://www.waveplam.eu/)*.
The event willexamine the EU-OEA's Roadmap for ocean energy,focusing in particular on the practicaldeployment of marine renewables technology and the issues which need to be tackled to develop the fledgling sector commercially in the EU as we look to a 2050 EU Energy Vision. The sessionwill include high-level speakers from the UK, Scotland, Ireland, France and Portugal, and will be chaired by theEU-OEA. The event will consider the following themes:-
Wave and tidal devices generating energynow and a consideration of transmission/grid requirements;
The development of a strategic, longer-term and integrated approach to deployment and demonstration projects, to identify clear priorities and projects for joint action;
The event will conclude with an evening reception hosted by the Scottish European Green Energy Centre (SEGEC) and launch of an exhibition of case studies of sustainable energy initiatives from public, private and academic actors in Scotland.
* The WAVEPLAM project is the first project funded by the European Agency for Competitiveness and Innovation (EACI) in the area of wave energy with the aim of presenting a complete picture of the sector's status, its barriers and best practices recommendations. The main outcome of the project, the "guidelines for implementing wave energy projects", aims to assist project developers with recommendations for a more effective implementation of their development project. WAVEPLAM is running under the Intelligent Energy Europe Programme, Agreement n° EIE/07/038/S12.466832.
