The European Union created the Sustainable Energy Europe Campaign in 2005 as its major effort to promote energy efficiency and renewable energy sources.

The latest Campaign phase (2009-2011) concluded on 31 December 2011. The focus of the next phase of the Campaign will be two-fold: EU Sustainable Energy Week, including Energy Days, events and activities in Brussels and across Europe; and the annual Sustainable Energy Awards Competition.

Now managed by the EU’s Executive Agency for Competitiveness and Innovation (EACI), Sustainable Energy Europe is designed to spread best practices in sustainable energy technology, build alliances, and inspire new energy ideas and actions.
